Drive through the bustling capital Kingstown known as City of Arches. Dating back to the 1900's most of the buildings was built with arches. Today, the government is encouraging architectures and builders to preserve any old building that is being refurbished by maintaining the arched look. Therefore it is evident as you can see the historic and modern buildings.
BOTANIC GARDENS: Located on approximately 20 acres of land and over the Governor General's House, it was established in 1765 and the oldest in the western hemisphere. At the Gardens, a wide variety of tropical flora/fauna and medicinal trees which includes a breadfruit tree descended from the original brought to the island by Captain Bligh on the ship H.M.S "Providence" in 1793. Our National Bird - the Amazona Guldingii can also be viewed.
MONTREAL GARDENS: A scenic drive takes you to the lush Montreal Gardens tucked away in the interior of the Mesopotamia Valley. It is located high up in the mountains some 3,017 ft. above sea level and affords magnificent views across ridges and valleys capturing the banana fields and other root crops.
Here you can experience an array and variety of exotic flowers and fruit trees. There is a special spot in this garden just for you, as you stroll along the paved pathways or just simply sit beneath the huts as you enjoy nature in its natural habitat - it is the perfect setting as you sip your rum punch or fruit punch before heading back to your ship.
